<http://www.kidsneedtoread.org/pirates.html>
on April 18, 2009 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This release party will
have all the standard things such events have, like special guests and
book signings, but it isn’t all about fun. This particular shindig
serves a greater purpose, as well. Up to twenty-five percent of the
proceeds from store-wide sales at the party will be donated to Kids
Need to Read when this special coupon
<
http://www.kidsneedtoread.org/images/softwireKNTR.pdf>
is presented before the purchase. Not only that, this offer is good
during the entire event week, April 18th through April 24th.

Even better, other Barnes & Nobles stores are getting in on the act,
too! Anyone who makes purchases from any Barnes & Noble retailer in
the United States can present the coupon to designate KNTR as the
beneficiary during the event week. Barnes & Noble will then donate up
to twenty-five percent of their sale to Kids Need to Read.

KNTR co-founder Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk have promised to come
celebrate with PJ and Kids Need to Read at the Oceanside happening.
Come on by and say hello to these two friends of KNTR. Please let them
know how much you appreciate their support for childhood literacy.

This is sure to be a fun event and everyone at Kids Need to Read is
very excited for PJ and for this chance to raise funds to get more
books into the hands of kids everywhere.

Thank you Barnes & Noble!

I just recieved this email from Kids need to read, link is on the links page:

Hi guys! We have some big stuff happening over at the Kids Need to Read eBay Store.

The Kids Need to Read Holiday Store has some GREAT news! Our Serenity/Firefly packages have been so popular that we are adding four (4) new ones! This week we also have a special treat up for auction. We have an ADORABLE Build-A-Bear monkey that is very special. Not only does she love reading, but her birth certificate is signed by The Kids Need to Read Foundation's founders PJ Haarsma and Nathan Fillion, as well as Serenity/Firefly actor Alan Tudyk! This is one cool monkey!

We also now have available the San Diego Comic-Con Limited Edition Serenity: Better Days #1 Exclusive Variant comic book. This special comic features Will Conrad's rare Dark Horse 100 cover, but in its pencil art form! These comics were a joint venture between Dark Horse Comics and the California Browncoats and were sold at San Diego Comic-Con 2008 with all the proceeds going to The Kids Need to Read Foundation. There were only 5,000 copies made, so this is an especially rare collectorʼs item!

Come on over, load up your arms, and help us put books into the hands of kids that need them!

29th October 2008 ~ I just received this email from Noirin Curran:

Last weekend we ran an auction for charity here in Ireland,
and an autographed picture of Alan that read "I am a leaf on
the wind, watch how I soar" sold for €1000, all for kids
charities.
There's also going to be a charity auction held in Cork at
http://www.warpcon.com on the 24th of January, next, and
I'm putting some EXTRA special Alan Tudyk items that he
gave me this summer up for sale...including a signed photo
that only myself and himself have a copy of, that he
printed off his own computer for me (so, when bought, it'll
be the only copy of the photo besides Alan's own copy) and
one of the keyrings that the cast were given at the end of
filming Serenity, and that's signed up by him too...
and it's all for charity! So spread the word if you feel
like it...all for a good cause :)

I just received an email from Kids Need to Read:

"Picture this . . . you are driving your car down a tree lined street. The kids are poking and teasing each other in the back seat. You stop at a stop sign and gaze out your window at the geese flying south to warmer weather. Suddenly, it hits you. You feel it well up from the depths of your soul. The panic! The sheer horror! It's time for . . . HOLIDAY SHOPPING AGAIN!

That's right folks. It's that time of year! The Kids Need to Read Foundation feels your pain and is here to help! We have assembled an impressive collection of unique items to cover all of your holiday shopping needs -- something for everyone on your list from your picky father-in-law to your paper boy! Head on over to the Kids Need to Read Charity eBay Store on Saturday, November 1st, load up your cart, check names off your list, and help get books in the hands of kids!"

Name, rank, and serial number . . . or in this case, bar code! You will find that and more on this replica of the Alliance Ident Card for none other than Hoban Washburne, pilot of Serenity! The card is protected in a sturdy badge holder – and you’ll want to keep it protected – it is signed by zany actor Alan Tudyk. To add to the fun we also have a "Leaf on the Wind" pendant made by Marianne Stebenne and Melissa Danforth, which has been donated by The New England Browncoats. What a way to remember our favorite pilot!

Check out this unusual collectible item at Kids Need to Read Charity Auctions http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110301874810. The auction ends on October 24, 2008
